How Flex Pricing Works

The Flex Pricing Pilot program gives participants a new way to save on their energy bill. With Flex Pricing, electricity prices vary depending on the time of day. That means your bill will depend on how much electricity you use and also on when you use it. Xcel Energy is piloting Flex Pricing with 10,000 customers in Minnesota.

Why Flex Pricing?

Save Money

If you're in the Flex Pricing Pilot, you have the opportunity to save money on your bill by making a few changes to your routine to use less energy during peak hours, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays.

Help our Environment

Using energy earlier in the day, later in the evening and overnight helps use even more renewable energy, because wind energy is abundant at night. Plus, if we work together to avoid spikes in electricity demand during the afternoon and evening, we can avoid building new fossil fuel plants in the future.

Bill Protection: Keeping Bills Low

On average, pilot participants' bills will stay about the same as today. Individually, your bill will depend on when and how much electricity you use, and you will have a chance to save money if you use less energy during peak hours, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays.

But if you don't end up saving, we have you covered for at least the first year of the pilot:
