Colorado Distribution System Plan

Electricity providers across the country are facing significant increases in demand for electricity from the continued electrification of transportation, homes and businesses. Our distribution system is facing unprecedented demands that require a more proactive, forward-looking approach to planning.

On Dec. 16, 2024, we submitted our Distribution System Plan proposal to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission which will allow us to expand, strengthen and modernize the electrical system. We’re reimagining the electric grid in a way that proactively meets the evolving expectations and needs of our customers and communities – both today and in the future – in a safe, reliable, affordable and equitable manner. Our proposed plan is the next critical step towards right-sizing and modernizing the distribution system – the power substations, transformers and equipment that deliver power directly to you – so we can continue serving our 1.6 million Colorado customers reliably and affordably.

Grid Modernization Adjustment Clause

We’re investing in the electric grid to ensure it remains safe, reliable and ready for the future — especially as more customers adopt electric vehicles, solar panels and other clean energy technologies. Investments and expenditures supporting these efforts are recovered through the Grid Modernization Adjustment Clause (GMAC). These annual adjustments allow us to recover costs in a timely way, helping avoid delays and ensuring the grid keeps pace with customer needs and state policy goals.

Energy Saving Tip

Create your own shade by planting a tree in a strategic location in your yard to block sunlight from pouring into your windows. It doesn't get much more green than a tree!

Break Ground, Not the Law

Always call 811 before digging in your yard to avoid hitting buried gas or electric lines. Not only is it the safe thing to do, but it's the law.
