Did you, or are you planning to move to a property where solar panels are installed? Are you selling a property with solar panels installed? If so, the solar account must be transferred to the new owner to receive the benefits of the solar generation. Please review and follow the steps below, so that we can process your paperwork accurately.
a. If you do not know the program or system owner of the solar on your premise please call our customer care team at 800-895-4999.
Note:
Rentals: If you are a property owner with Solar planning to rent your property. Please review the respective arrow and submit a Tenant/Landlord Agreement form.
If you purchased the property through a builder, the builder will be listed as the original owner of the solar system.
It's the incentivized program, so monthly payments are made to the owner of the solar system in exchange for Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for the energy produced by the solar system. The Assignment of Contact process transfers the REC Purchase Contract and Interconnection Agreement from the previous homeowner to the new homeowner.
If you are a purchasing a home with solar panels, we strongly encourage you to ask the original owner for copies of the contractual documents they signed with Xcel Energy. These include a REC Purchase Contract and an Interconnection Agreement. Please follow these steps to transfer the system ownership and to make sure that the solar production is accurately reflected on the new owner’s energy bills.
1. The new owner must contact customer service at 800-895-4999 to start electric services at the property. Ask the representative to start electric services on a future start date, usually around the closing date.
2. Provide the following information through email to the Solar*Rewards Team at solarprogram@xcelenergy.com. Please title the subject line with 'AOC' and either your last name or street address. Example: AOC Smith.
NOTE: If the system is customer-owned, the new owner must also submit proof of insurance. Please find our insurance requirements listed below. Please send proof of insurance to solarprogram@xcelenergy.com with the initial Assignment of Contract email request or fax to 800-252-4371.
If the system is 3rd party owned (leased), the new owner does not need to provide proof of insurance. Insurance is carried by the system owner.
NOTE: The new owner’s name provided must match the primary account holder’s name for electric billing services at the property. Valid email addresses are required if you choose to submit documents via the e-signature process. Using the electronic process is highly recommended. It is the owner’s responsibility to obtain both signatures in order to secure the Assignment of Contract.
3. Once the Assignment of Contract has been initiated, you will receive a notification email from the Solar*Rewards team informing you that the Assignment of the Contract has been sent to both parties for e-signatures.
4. Sign the electronic Assignment of Contract form, by e-signature, or choose the print, sign, and fax option. Signatures must be obtained by both new and previous owners in order for the Assignment of Contract to be completed.
5. Once the transfer has been completed, you will receive an email from the Solar*Rewards team confirming the completion.
The Solar*Rewards Team will receive notification once signatures are received to complete the transfer of the PV solar system. Please reach out to us if you have questions or would like a copy of the completed contract once the Assignment of Contract is complete.
If you are a developer and are transferring more than 10 Assignment requests at one time please email the Solar*Rewards Team at solarprogram@xcelenergy.com for special instructions, in any other case please use the below method.
Systems up to 10 kW
Systems between 10.001 kW and 500 kW
Important Note: All Renewable Energy Credit (REC) incentive payments will then be made out to the new developer via the next billing cycle. All REC incentive payments which have been made to the original developer past the date of sale, shall be remitted to the new developer outside of Xcel Energy.

It’s a solar interconnection option that provides solar bank credits when you produce more solar energy than you need, the extra energy is added to our grid. Any excess is held in your solar bank for you to use in future months.

Energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs may cost a bit more up front, but they can save big money over the life of the product. Plus, some energy-efficient equipment may be eligible for rebates to offset the initial cost.
