How We Restore Power

Our number one priority is to restore power quickly and safely.

An estimated restoration time (ERT) is the amount of time we expect it will take to restore your power after an outage. As we get more information, we will update ERTs accordingly. After a major weather event, such as a severe storm, we assess damages, begin restoration, and provide the following:

  • A global ERT to provide an estimate of when all customers impacted will be restored.
  • An individual ERT to areas where crews have begun work.

Determining ERTs Storm ERTs are based on conditions and damage to our infrastructure. Planned and unexpected outages rely on historical data for ERTs.

The Restoration Process

We're ready for any situation and will be working 24/7 to get your power back on. When restoring power, our crews go to the most critical areas and work in order of priority:

Power generation and substationsCritical customers and communicationsMid-level infrastructure and neighborhoodsIndividual homes and businesses*

Your cooperation in reporting an outage and patience during restoration is appreciated. To prepare yourself before and after the storm, check out our readiness resources.

*If there is structural damage to personal equipment such as a mast or meter box, you will need to hire an electrician to restore power to your home or business.

Energy Saving Tip

Turn off your lights when you leave the room—even if you'll only be gone for a moment. Contemporary light bulbs require very little energy to turn "on."

Look Up. Look Out. Stay Safe.

Be very aware of overhead power lines coming into your home. Always keep yourself, your ladders and tools at least 10 feet away.
