Q. How does Xcel Energy run the natural gas line from the street to my building?

A. In most cases, Xcel Energy installs natural gas service by cutting through the yard with a long blade attached to a tractor. We pull the natural gas line through the cut about 18 to 24 inches below the surface. We will consult with you in advance if boring is necessary. Generally, it takes fewer than four hours to install the service.

Q. When is the best time to arrange for installation?

A. Once you have signed an agreement, we generally need 4-6 weeks to schedule the installation of your service. By calling early, you can avoid the fall rush– which can push the schedule out as much as eight weeks.

Xcel Energy will install the natural gas line from your property line up to 75 feet to point of service at no charge. A construction charge may apply in the case of longer runs or unusual conditions. A one-time account set-up fee will apply to new Xcel Energy customers and will be included in your first natural gas bill.
