If your business can reduce its electricity demand when notified, you could qualify for a monthly credit on your Xcel Energy bill.
During periods of peak energy demand, such as hot summer days, our system may require more power than is typically available. Customers who participate in the ISOC program agree to reduce their electricity demand at our request during these periods. The more load you agree to control, the more you’ll save on your Xcel Energy bill. Year-round credits often add up to thousands of dollars.
If you’re interested in ISOC, call your Xcel Energy account manager, email us or phone our Business Solutions Center at 1-855-839-8862. We can help you determine whether ISOC is a good fit for your business. Please note that you can join the program for the current year any time before May 31st.
Generally, we ask ISOC customers to reduce their electricity demand on hot summer days between June 1st and September 30th. However, these events can occur during any season or during a rare system emergency. All interruptions will last a minimum of four hours, unless a shorter interruption option is selected.
Your contract interruptible load is the median of your maximum daily 1-hour integrated kW demands occurring between noon and 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from June 1st through September 30th of the previous year, less any contract firm demand.
To qualify for ISOC, you must:
Customers without previous history can join ISOC if they can demonstrate, to our satisfaction, that they are likely to achieve an interruptible electricity demand of at least 300 kW. Ask your Xcel Energy account manager for more details.
Your monthly credit amount is tied to your contract interruptible load, the number of hours you agree to be interrupted each year, and the advance notice option you select. For monthly credit amounts or more details on ISOC, please see our Information Sheet.
