Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive beetle that can destroy ash trees in our service areas. In and around the infestations, our vegetation management crews will be proactively addressing ash trees during routine maintenance activities. These activities may include actively seeking out ash tree removals or proactively removing overhanging branches from ash to create extra separation between ash trees and Xcel Energy facilities. These activities better position both us and tree owners to deal with ash trees once they succumb to the effects of EAB infestations.
If you have an infested tree and feel circumstances call for tree removal, one of our representatives will be happy to discuss arrangements with you. The service we provide often involves pruning a portion of the tree away from power lines, so a tree worker that is not qualified to work near power lines can complete the tree removal. This is referred to as a Safety Zone. The wood and brush is not hauled away in these situations. If you are planning to have a tree removed that is near power lines, please call our customer service number to make arrangements at 1-800-895-4999.
