Xcel Energy completes upgrades in Prescott to power additional growth

A $4 million project to upgrade one of Xcel Energy’s substations in Prescott has wrapped up and will be energized by mid-December.

EAU CLAIRE, WI (Dec.7, 2016) – A $4 million project to upgrade one of Xcel Energy’s substations in Prescott has wrapped up and will be energized by mid-December.

With increasing electricity needs and ongoing economic growth in the area, several improvements were needed at the company’s substation located at the corner of Sycamore and Locust Street. Among the work completed, a second transformer was installed and a new larger underground line was added to serve the area.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the city and neighbors during construction,” said Brian Elwood, manager, Community Relations for Pierce, Polk and St. Croix County. “Because of the location of the substation we worked closely with residents and the city to minimize impacts during construction and we were able to finish on time and under budget. We are well positioned to support ongoing residential and business growth in the region.”

Other improvements at the site included new exterior fencing, a retaining wall and a second driveway to allow better access for crews working at the substation.

Energy Saving Tip

Have your home checked for leaky ducts, drafts around doors and windows, fireplace dampers, and other places where air might escape.
