Tradesmen & Skilled Workers

We realize that working in an office isn’t for everyone. If you’re interested in a rewarding, challenging career such as gas worker or electrical lineman, we have plenty of opportunities for you.

When Mother Nature does her worst and knocks out power, our crews are at their best, working long hours to keep the public safe and restore service.

Explore our opportunities

Here’s a sampling of some of the field and skilled labor opportunities that are often available here:

Gas Worker: At Xcel Energy, you can expect to have challenging work, earning the sense of accomplishment that comes from keeping the public safe and providing (or restoring) a much-needed service. View our Gas Worker Apprentice Career Fact Sheet (PDF).

Electrical Lineman: This is a prestigious, physically demanding, dangerous job that requires extensive training. View our Electrical Line Apprentice Career Fact Sheet (PDF).

Fleet Mechanics: Are you good at fixing vehicles? If you enjoy variety and are looking for a mechanic job with good pay and benefits, we want to talk to you.

Behavioral Assessments & EEI Exams

For many positions, we will ask applicants to take a pre-hire behavioral assessment. For select technical positions, we will also ask applicants to take an employment test developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI). If you apply to a job that requires either of these assessments, your application will be reviewed by a recruiter. If selected, you’ll receive an email invitation with instructions on how to proceed.

Energy Saving Tip

Energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs may cost a bit more up front, but they can save big money over the life of the product. Plus, some energy-efficient equipment may be eligible for rebates to offset the initial cost.

Break Ground, Not the Law

Always call 811 before digging in your yard to avoid hitting buried gas or electric lines. Not only is it the safe thing to do, but it's the law.
