Pioneers in Public Service (PIPS) Retiree Volunteer Program

The Pioneers in Public Service (PIPS) retiree volunteer program has served numerous communities over the last 30 years. Hundreds of retirees have participated over the years as Xcel Energy volunteers.

Through the PIPS program retiree volunteers have helped serve organizations by:

  • Applying raised, colored markings to the appliances of more than 1,000 blind and visually impaired customers through our Kitchen Appliance Marking Program (KAMP).

  • Building homes with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.

  • Wrapping gifts for families through the Salvation Army.

  • Planting trees and shrubs with Great River Greening, Three Rivers State Park.

  • Building and repairing furniture through Bridging Inc.

  • Participating in the NSP-Minnesota Day of Service.

PIPS highlights:

  • Over the last 30 years, PIPS members have dedicated more than 80,000 volunteer hours serving our communities.

  • If you multiply the 80,000 hours by the Points of Light Foundation's national rate of $22.15 per volunteer hour, it equates to more than $1.7 million dollars of in-kind service provided to communities.

Annually, two retirees are honored for their community involvement as Xcel Energy PIPS volunteers.

Break Ground, Not the Law

Always call 811 before digging in your yard to avoid hitting buried gas or electric lines. Not only is it the safe thing to do, but it's the law.
