The Minnesota Cold Weather Rule dictates that eligible residential energy customers are protected from service disconnection from October 15 through April 15 provided the disconnection would affect the customer’s primary heating source.
Income eligible customers are not required to pay more than 10% of their household income each month toward their Xcel Energy bill.
To avoid disconnection, customers who receive a notice of proposed disconnection must immediately contact the utility and commit to a payment plan. If needed, Xcel Energy will refer customer to local community energy assistance programs.
Set your hot water heater to no higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This isn't just energy smart—it's also safer, since it reduces the likelihood of accidental burns.
Always call 811 before digging in your yard to avoid hitting buried gas or electric lines. Not only is it the safe thing to do, but it's the law.
