Water Heater Rebates

Earn a rebate on a high-efficiency natural gas water heater that can help you save energy and money on the appliance that typically consumes half of the energy in your home.

Get Started

  1. Find a participating contractor or retailer.
  2. Purchase and install a new, qualifying water heater between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017.
  3. Submit an application online, download the rebate application or receive one from your contractor.
    • For equipment purchased in 2017, download the rebate application (PDF). Return the application with valid purchase receipts/invoices by July 31, 2018.
    • For equipment purchased in 2016, download the rebate application (PDF). Return the application with valid purchase receipts/invoices by July 31, 2017.

There is no limit to the number of water heater rebates you can receive. If you install two qualifying water heaters, you may submit two forms.

Details & Eligibility

Rebates are determined by the year the equipment was purchased based on date of invoice or receipt.  In 2017, standard tank water heaters must be ≤ 55 gallons to qualify.

Additional Information

The installation property must be located in Minnesota and receive residential natural gas service from Xcel Energy to qualify for the rebate.

Indirect units and commercial water heaters do not qualify for Xcel Energy rebates.

Only residential equipment listed on the AHRI directory (external link) or ENERGY STAR website (external link) is eligible for rebate. Efficiency ratings are determined using the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).
