Overhead to Underground Conversion
Converting residential overhead electric service to underground (up to 400 amps)
We’ll work with you to make lowering your electric wires to underground easy and safe. Read our brochure for full requirements, restrictions and an application form. Key details include:
- Hire a licensed electrician to complete any necessary work beyond our wires, which go to the top of the mast. For safety reasons, we will not accept customer-installed underground service wire.
- The base fee is $340, plus $6.50 per foot of service wire. (This fee includes the materials and labor for installation.) You’ll also see an additional $2 underground monthly service charge on your Xcel Energy bill. Pole removal and winter installation charges are extra.
- You must ensure an unobstructed 8-foot-wide minimum route for installation.
- Installation does not include restoration of your yard back to its original condition.
- You may need a permit for this type of work. Contact your city for details.
