Energy Management Systems for Trade Partners

Installing an Energy Management System (EMS) in a customer’s facility can reduce their energy usage and make the facility operate more efficiently. Energy Management Systems can schedule and control equipment so it is only on when needed. This reduces equipment run time and energy costs while improving tenant comfort. The Energy Management System program offers rebates to customers for installing a qualifying EMS.

Summary

  • Customers receive rebates for both on-peak and off-peak savings realized
  • In order to qualify, the project must be:
    • A new EMS system where none existed before; or
    • A replacement of a non-functioning EMS system; or
    • Added functionality to an existing system.
  • Projects that don’t qualify include:
    • Replacing an obsolete, but functioning, EMS;
    • Duplicating existing system functionality; and
    • An EMS installed as part of new construction.

Quick tips and information for trade partners

  • All EMS projects require preapproval. Please remind your customers to get preapproval from Xcel Energy before taking any steps to purchase new equipment or systems. To qualify for a rebate, the preapproval date must come before any/all:
    • Purchase order dates
    • Equipment order dates
    • Equipment ship dates
    • Invoice dates
  • The program pays $400 per on-peak kW saved
    • On-peak time is 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays
  • The program pays $0.0525 per off-peak kWh saved
    • Off-peak time is all other time, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays
  • Rebates cannot exceed 50% of the incremental cost
