Cooling Efficiency for Trade Partners
Increase your sales of energy-efficient cooling equipment by helping your customers receive cash incentives for buying and installing qualifying models. Through our Cooling Efficiency program, by ConservationWise from Xcel EnergySM, we want to work with you to encourage customers to make energy-saving cooling choices.
Summary
Program news
The State of Minnesota has indicated that it will adopt ASHRAE 90.1 2004 as the new State Energy Code. This code will significantly raise the efficiencies of most air conditioning equipment. The Cooling Efficiency program will be required to raise its minimum qualifying efficiencies as a result. At this time we do not know when MN will adopt the new code but we expect it in 2007. Now is the time to get projects sold and submitted for rebates to ensure that the equipment qualifies.
Rebate application and guidelines
-
Be sure to have the customer sign the application prior to submittal.
-
Don’t forget about the Alternative Rebate Recipient option.
-
Information needed with completed rebate applications
-
Be sure that chiller rebates include the manufacturer’s performance specs.
-
For centrifugal chillers greater than 150 tons, NPLV must be calculated using ARI guidelines.

Remember air-cooled chillers are not eligible for rebates under the Cooling Efficiency prescriptive program but may qualify for a rebate under the Custom Efficiency program if the installation results in significant energy savings over other alternatives.
-
Considering a geothermal or geoexchange cooling system? Just follow the requirements of the prescriptive rebates for water source heat pumps, but provide the efficiency of the unit rated at ARI conditions for water source heat pumps.
