Electric Rate Savings

Interruptible Service Option Credit (ISOC)

If you’re looking to reduce your electric bills and if you have some flexibility with your electricity use, you’re a good candidate for saving money with our Electric Rate Savings.

Our Interruptible Service Option Credit (ISOC) offers significant savings opportunities for our Colorado business customers who can reduce their electric demand when notified.

In return for participating, you receive a monthly credit on your demand charges, saving an average of 7 percent to 67 percent on annual demand charges, depending on the options you select.

Details

During periods of peak demand, such as hot summer days, our system may require more power than is normally available. Electric Reduction Savings customers help reduce the amount of electricity our customers need, which helps us meet electric system requirements at critical times. The more load you agree to control, the more you’ll save.

  • Year-round energy savings often add up to thousands of dollars in discounts on your controllable demand.
    • June through September discounts range from $1.17 to $10.79 per kW of your controllable load.
    • October through May discounts range from $0.76 to $7.06 per kW of your controllable load.
  • You choose the amount of interruption appropriate for your facility.
  • Your credit is tied to the number of hours you contract to be interrupted each year and to the advance notice option you select.
  • Interruption periods typically are triggered as a result of capacity, contingency and/or economic constraint. Control periods usually occur on hot, summer days between June 1 and September 30, but can occur during any season or during a rare system emergency. All interruptions will last a minimum of 4 hours.
  • You must be a Colorado electric business customer with an interruptible demand of at least 500 kilowatts (kW) during the months of June, July, August and September of the previous year.
  • You must also have a contract interruptible load of at least 500 kW.
    • Your contract interruptible load is the median of your maximum daily 15-minute demands, which occurred between noon and 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday (excluding weekends and holidays) from June 1 through Sept. 30 of the previous year.
    • Your interruptible demand is the maximum 15-minute integrated demand used during the month that occurred between noon and 8 p.m., less any firm demand. If your interruptible demand or your contract interruptible load is less than 500 kW during any of these months, we’re unable to offer you these discounts at this time.
