Question: I was moved to a different rate due to my usage; can you please explain to me how that happened?

Answer:

According to an agreement between Xcel Energy and the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, we must bill you on the General Service Rate Schedule when your actual electric demand, or your highest 15 minutes of usage per monthly billing period, reaches or exceeds 25 kilowatts (kW). If your billing demand is less than 25 kW for 12 consecutive months, you can ask to be put back on the Small General Service Rate Schedule by calling our Business Solutions Center at 1-800-481-4700 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. One of our business representatives will review your account and make a recommendation as to what rate works best for you.
