Recycling information

Ready to recycle? We can help.

The Bulb Recycling program, brought to you by BudgetSmart from Xcel EnergySM, gives you two convenient ways to recycle your used fluorescent bulbs. Either take your used fluorescents to your county recycling center and we’ll cover the cost or take a trip to a participating area retailer and we’ll help you pay their recycling fee with 50¢ off coupons.

It’s good for the environment, and it’s the law.

Fluorescent bulbs provide more light using less energy, making them an energy efficient, environmentally friendly lighting choice. Their energy efficiency means you need to replace them less often than you would standard bulbs. When you are ready to replace spent fluorescent bulbs, don’t dispose of them in your household trash receptacle. Fluorescent bulbs and high intensity discharge (HID) lamps contain a small amount of mercury, and Minnesota law requires special handling of their disposal. Take the spent bulbs to your county recycling center or a participating area retailer for recycling

It’s right around the corner.

It's easy and convenient to do the right thing. Simply take your used bulbs to a participating county recycling center or redeem one coupon per bulb at a participating area retailer near you. There is a limit of 10 coupons per customer per year.

It pays.

In partnership with Mercury Technologies of Minnesota and participating county recycling centers and area retailers, BudgetSmart offers easy access for the disposal of fluorescent bulbs and funding that keeps the cost to recycle low.
