Windsource® Program Charge Details

• The nominal Windsource Program charge appears as a separate line item on your monthly Xcel energy bill starting four to six weeks after we receive your sign-up form, assuming there is not a wait list for new subscriptions. Please note that Windsource is available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Once our wind energy supply is fully subscribed you may be added to a waiting list.
• The net Windsource Program cost is equal to the nominal charge less the avoided fuel costs of conventional sources of energy. These avoided fuel costs include the base cost fuel rate and a monthly fuel cost adjustment.
• Based on annual average of avoided fuel costs for 2006 and the new wind tariff, for example purposes only, the Windsource Program charge would be: $3.53 - $2.40 = $1.13 per 100 kWh block or $0.0113 per kWh. 
• Windsource energy is subject to all base electric rate adjustments. The Windsource Program charge therefore, will change based on filed rate adjustments, including fuel costs for conventional sources of energy.
• Windsource residential customers must commit to purchasing clean, renewable wind energy for a minimum of one year (three years for large business customers), during which time you may pay more for electricity than under the standard rates.

• The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has approved the use of market pricing concept for Windsource rather than the regulated methods. Xcel Energy reserves the right to remove customers from Windsource for non-payment.
