How will I be billed?
- Charges for the Windsource Adjustment will appear as a separate line item on your monthly Xcel Energy bill starting four to six weeks after we receive your sign-up form, assuming there is no waiting list.
- Windsource energy supply is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event that Windsource is fully subscribed, customers will be added to a waiting list and notified semi-annually about the status of the waiting list. Wait-list customers may modify or cancel their request for Windsource without penalty.
How will my electricity bill be calculated?
Your electricity charges will reflect your metered electricity usage billed at the base electric rate plus the “Windsource Program charge.”
How much will my total electricity service cost, including utility charges?
Based on the electric rates effective February 1, 2007, and monthly average usage of 625 kilowatt-hours (kWh), the following table shows what typical Xcel Energy Minnesota residential customers would pay for monthly electricity service to purchase 500 kWh per month of Windsource. Your actual bill will vary based on your use of electricity. The Windsource Adjustment may be slightly higher for commercial & industrial customers.
-
Residential example:
Monthly electricity cost: (625 kWh): $60.85
Windsource Program charge (5-100 kWh blocks @ $.924 charge/block): $4.62
Total: 60.85 + 4.62 = $65.47
-
Commercial example:
Monthly electricity cost: (625 kWh): $62.92
Windsource Program charge (5-100 kWh blocks @ $.867 charge/block): $4.34
Total: 62.92 + 4.34 = $67.26
Will my electricity rates change over time?
Because base electric rates, wind energy rates and energy cost adjustments will vary, your Windsource Adjustment will also vary. A Windsource customer may pay more or less for electricity than under the standard rates.
What fuel sources will be used to generate my power?
The energy that supplies Windsource is 100 percent wind energy generated or purchased from Minnesota wind farms. The remainder of your electricity contains the following mix of electricity resources: biomass and waste (1.6%), coal (40.9%), natural gas and oil (3.6%), hydroelectric (11.1%), nuclear (24.6%), wind (3%) and other (15.2%).
What length of agreement is required?
For our residential and small business customers, there’s a minimum one-year purchase requirement (three years for large business customers). You’ll continue to participate in Windsource on a month-to-month basis until you notify us of a change in your commitment. If you move before the completion of your minimum term, your Windsource commitment will automatically be terminated.
If I want to terminate this agreement, what is the early termination fee?
There is no fee for early termination. Early termination is not allowed unless you move from your premise and finalize your electric service.
What other fees might I be charged?
The Wind Energy Service is subject to all base rate Electric Rate Adjustments.
