2007 Colorado Resource Plan
Xcel Energy is leading the way in providing clean energy to our customers
On November 15, 2007, we filed our Resource Plan with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. This plan outlines the energy resources we will need to acquire to meet our customers’ electricity demands through the year 2015. We plan to meet our customers’ growing needs while, at the same time, reducing environmental impacts and keeping energy prices reasonable.
Our strategy represents a significant shift in the way we do business. The Resource Plan for Colorado includes a strong focus on clean energy technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our plan calls for reducing carbon-dioxide emissions by 10 percent from 2005 levels by 2017.
This puts us on track to meet Governor Bill Ritter’s policy of 20 percent reduction of carbon dioxide by 2020. In 2003, we estimated that, to meet customer needs, our carbon dioxide emissions would have increased by 20 percent. Today, we are proposing a plan that will result in a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
We will work with regulators and policy leaders to make the most responsible energy choices necessary to achieve these goals.
