Resource and Renewable Energy Plans

Every few years Xcel Energy goes through a process to assess the resources necessary to serve customers’ future energy needs. The assessment, known as a resource plan, is submitted to regulatory commissions in the major states we serve. The regulatory review includes input from customers and other stakeholders.  In 2007 we filed resource plans in Colorado and Minnesota.

Minnesota passed legislation in 2007 that requires Xcel Energy to provide 30 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020. This law requires us to submit a renewable energy plan to the regulatory commission every two years. We filed our first plan late last year. It provided the foundation for the renewable energy section of the resource plan.

The Resource Plan also discusses our future energy efficiency program goals, summarizes our transmission planning process and other resources we may need to acquire based on our studies of future load growth
