Monticello Plant to Increase Output

On February 14, 2008, we filed a Certificate of Need application with Minnesota regulators to increase the electricity generating capacity at the Monticello nuclear power plant by approximately 70 megawatts. Analysis shows that adding capacity at Monticello is the most cost-effective option available to meet customers' increasing demand for electricity. The proposed increase in capacity also will reduce carbon emissions overall by reducing the need to build some new plants and by reducing the use of some existing fossil-fueled plants. 

After the Certificate of Need application is reviewed for completeness, the Public Utilities Commission will set a schedule to review the merits of the request.
