Cameo Station

 Cameo Station photo

Location: East of Grand Junction, Colorado.

Plant Description: Cameo Station has two operating units that burn low-sulfur coal as their primary fuel and natural gas as their secondary fuel.

Power Production Capabilities: 73 megawatts (MW): Unit 1 – 24 MW and Unit 2 – 49 MW.

Fuel Source: Low-sulfur coal supplied by the McClane Canyon Mine near Mack, Colorado.

Plant History: Cameo Station began operating in 1957 when Unit 1 went into service. Unit 2 went into service in 1960.

Interesting Features: The plant is located in the picturesque Debeque Canyon of the Colorado River and is near the Grand Mesa in Grand Junction.

Environmental Highlights: Air emissions are controlled at Cameo Station by baghouses installed on both units. Baghouses act like giant vacuum cleaners, removing more than 99 percent of particulate emissions from the flue gas.

Community Involvement: Cameo employees are actively involved in college and high school baseball programs in the Grand Valley. The plant also provides tours and programs for area schools.
