Grand Meadow Wind Farm

On June 25, 2007, Xcel Energy filed with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission an Application for a Certificate of Need for a wind generation facility in Southeastern Minnesota. Xcel Energy has contracted with enXco Development Corporation to build the 100 MW Grand Meadow Wind Farm on a 200 MW site (called Wapsipinicon) under development by enXco. The Grand Meadow Wind Farm is expected to consist of 67, 1.5 MW wind turbines and is expected to be in service by the end of 2008. The additional wind generation is necessary to comply with the Commission’s Order in Xcel Energy’s 2004 Resource Plan and to comply with the Renewable Energy Standard recently enacted by the Minnesota Legislature, which requires Xcel Energy to supply 30 percent of its Minnesota retail sales from renewable resources by 2020.
