Employee Initiatives

Nine Xcel Energy employees, accompanied by several family members, were among 600 walkers who raised $56,000 for the American Heart Association by committing to a four-mile walk. The walk was held on a bike path in Sioux Falls, S. Dak.

Our employees and retirees, and their families, continue to donate their time and skills to the community in the true spirit of corporate citizenship, frequently embarking on their own initiatives:

• Employees from the Arvada Service Center worked with a crew from the ABC television show 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'. The project, a duplex, broke ground on a Monday and was finished by Saturday — furnished and move-in ready for two families from Colorado Homeless Families. Xcel Energy employees had to get natural gas and electric service to the lot prior to the start of excavation and be able to provide the necessary metered service as required by the accelerated construction schedule after required building inspections were passed.
• Xcel Energy employees and retirees in Wisconsin stepped up to help families in the state's Chippewa Valley through its 16th annual 'Feed My People' food drive. They raised $12,000 through contributions, donations from local businesses and fund-raisers that included an online auction, a pie/ice cream social, bowling tournaments, a pancake breakfast, a chili feed and a picnic lunch.
• Employees at the Amarillo Call Center participated in a March of Dimes walk, which featured a fund-raising competition among the various units of the call center. The walkers raised $8,700 in pledges, which will be augmented by $1,000 from the Xcel Energy Foundation for a total of $9,700.

Our employee initiatives are as varied as the communities we serve. We are proud of their spirit and drive to improve the quality of life in our service territory.
