Employee Involvement

We are proud of our employees who spend countless hours providing leadership and volunteer services to nonprofit organizations in our communities. Likewise, many of our retirees find themselves putting more energy than ever into their favorite causes, applying lifetimes of experience to serve their communities.

Employee Involvement at Xcel Energy can take many forms:  participation in company sponsored programs such as Meals on Wheels or Habitat for Humanity; rallying coworkers in our annual United Way campaign; becoming involved in one of our school partnerships; joining with fellow employees to organize a food drive; or using our volunteer opportunities search engine powered by VolunteerMatch to search for an after work volunteer activity. Through our Matching Gifts programs, Xcel Energy Foundation recognizes these efforts.

Xcel Energy Foundation matches employee and retiree gifts to nonprofit organizations and institutes of higher education, dollar-for-dollar. Employee volunteer hours earn a $5 per hour match and teams of volunteers are rewarded by a $500 gift to the nonprofit, in recognition of their leadership.

In 2005, Xcel Energy Foundation contributed $542,000 to our communities through our matching gifts programs. On top of these gifts and United Way pledges, employees donated $163,600 to ten major disaster relief organizations in the wake of tsunamis, tornadoes and hurricanes.

Employees at Xcel Energy organized a ‘support our troops’ drive in company locations across our service territory. Working from a list composed by employees serving in the Middle East, support packages were prepared and mailed to our service men and women stationed abroad. The drive resulted in many happy faces.
