Environmental Grants

Xcel Energy Foundation supports nonprofit projects that focus on the connection between environment and energy. We strive to build partnerships that result in environmental improvement. In 2006, Xcel Energy Foundation committed $467,300 to environmental education, awareness and partnerships across our service territory.

Programs in the following areas are preferred:

• Environmental Education  
  1. Teacher training workshops/seminars. Programs that train and support K-12 educators in teaching curriculum focused on energy and the environment
• Environmental Awareness
  1. Environment & Energy Awareness Forums.  Sponsorships of statewide conferences and/or forums that emphasize dialogue and consensus building in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable technologies and wildlife stewardship (limited sponsorship available)
  2. Energy & the Environment Awareness Displays. Exhibits at museums and other public community-based facilities, with an emphasis on interactive and demonstration displays that build awareness for energy efficiency, renewable technologies and wildlife stewardship
• Environmental Partnerships
  1. Habitat and Park Projects. Partnership efforts between nonprofit entities and Xcel Energy that preserve, restore and improve wildlife habitat, open lands, wet lands, parks, trail systems or recreational areas
  2. Special Projects/Partnerships.  Projects designed to meet the stated goal of producing environmental improvement through neighborhood cleanup and beautification efforts that provide volunteer opportunities for Xcel Energy employees and retirees
