2007 Electric Rate Case Information

On July 30, 2007, Southwestern Public Service Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Xcel Energy, Inc, filed an application with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission to raise base rates for retail electric service as it seeks to invest in generation, transmission and environmental improvements. The overall increase for all customer classes, including residential, commercial and industrial, is 6.6 percent, or $17.3 million. The residential rate would rise by 7.3 percent, or $6.12 per month for an average household using 1,000 kilowatt-hours. Other rate classes would see different percentage increases.

On Aug. 21, 2007, the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission voted to suspend SPS's electric rate increase request for an additional nine months beyond the requested Aug. 29, 2007 effective date to May 29, 2008, as provided under the New Mexico Public Utility Act.
