345-kV Transmission Line Maintenance Projects

• Prairie Island to Adams
• King to Eau Claire
• Eau Claire to Aprin

We are planning to replace some of the structures on three of our 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines in Minnesota and Wisconsin. This project includes:

• The 345-kV electric transmission line from the Prairie Island generating plant near Red Wing, Minn., to the Adams Substation near Adams, Minn. (75 miles);
• The 345-kV electric transmission line from the Allen S. King generating plant in Oak Park Heights, Minn., to the Eau Claire Substation in Eau Claire, Wis. (64 miles); and
• The 345-kV transmission line from the Eau Claire Substation to the Arpin Substation near Marshfield, Wis. (76 miles).

Project information

Status

The Minnesota portion of this project did not need any state approvals. In Wisconsin, the Public Service Commission (PSCW) needs to review the project due to the cost of the proposals.

We filed an application with the PSCW for the King to Eau Claire portion of the line on April 29, 2005. You can access the case directly from that page by entering the PSCW Docket number 4220-CE-164. The Commission recently issued its Notice of Investigation for the project and is soliciting comments.

An application for the Eau Claire to Arpin section of the project was filed on July 29, 2005.
