Lighten your energy bills with energy-saving lighting
Xcel Energy joins EPA’s “Change a Light, Change the World” Campaign
MINNEAPOLIS - Xcel Energy aims to enlighten budget-conscious customers to the financial and environmental advantages of compact fluorescent lighting — new-age bulbs that last 6 to 10 times longer than ordinary incandescent bulbs, provide significant improvements in lighting and options compared to earlier generations of compact fluorescent light bulbs, and use a lot less energy along the way.
The company is teaming with Ace Hardware stores in its Minnesota service territory, General Electric and other local agencies to offer energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs for as little as $1 with instant rebates. Xcel Energy supports the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR “Change a Light, Change the World” campaign, which challenges all Americans to switch to lighting products that have earned the ENERGY STAR rating — to save energy and money and to protect the environment.
“Xcel Energy customers can save $50 in energy costs over the life of the bulb by replacing just one incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent type,” said Xcel Energy Product Manager Kim Sherman. “Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping to protect the environment by using less electricity.”
For a limited time, Ace Hardware stores are offering special low prices and $2 instant rebates on 60-, 75- and 100-watt compact fluorescent bulbs, resulting in the extremely affordable prices of $1, $1.29 and $1.49, respectively. The low prices are made possible by Xcel Energy’s Conservation Improvement Program along with the sponsorship of General Electric, the Minnesota Department of Commerce and Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.
A wide variety of compact fluorescent bulbs also are available at competitive prices to Xcel Energy customers on-line at www.xcelenergy.com or by calling 1-877-535-0350 and requesting an energy saving lighting catalogue. Xcel Energy offers a wide range of energy-efficient light bulb styles and wattages, and customers purchasing seven or more compact fluorescents get one free bulb.
“The energy efficiency of compact fluorescent bulbs combined with the variety of styles make them an excellent energy-saving investment,” Sherman said.
