Xcel Energy statement in response to the final report issued by FraudWise
MINNEAPOLIS - We are in the process of reviewing the final FraudWise report, released late today, and we will file a response with the Public Utilities Commission. We are committed to addressing issues in the report, and we anticipate discussing them further with FraudWise and state regulators.
Xcel Energy takes the reporting of reliable data very seriously. We are fully committed to honest, ethical conduct in all aspects of our business dealings and strict adherence to our Code of Conduct. The company has and will take harsh disciplinary action against any employee – at any level – who violates the Code of Conduct.
Xcel Energy has very dedicated employees whose main concerns lie in the quality of service provided to our customers. However, instances were found where the company’s documentation processes were not followed consistently in prior years. Most deviations occurred at one service center for Minneapolis and involved a small number of employees. Over the past year, we have implemented many safeguards to ensure reliable reporting – some of which we identified and initiated prior to the investigation.
These safeguards include: extensively reorganizing the management structure, making the reporting process more transparent, subjecting it to multiple reviews and requiring better documentation. We have also adopted some process improvements recommended by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. We will also solicit recommendations from state regulators.
Xcel Energy is fully committed to improved procedures that will eliminate inconsistent or inaccurate outage reporting and lead to better data collection. We have a long-standing tradition of ethical business conduct, and we are committed to maintaining our credibility with regulators, customers and our employees.
