Statement - Cabin Creek Incident Response to OSHA Report findings

Dick Kelly, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Xcel Energy, issued the following statement today, following release of the OSHA report on the Cabin Creek hydro plant accident:

“We at Xcel Energy once again extend our deepest sympathies to the families, friends and co-workers of the five men who lost their lives in the accident at the Cabin Creek Generating Station near Georgetown, Colorado, last October.

“We will need to fully review the report that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued, and we cannot comment specifically on the findings.  We intend to discuss the findings with OSHA to fully understand the implications.

“While we respect the investigative work that OSHA has done, we disagree with any statement that implies we acted without regard to the safety of our employees and contract workers.

“The authorities investigating the Cabin Creek event have our full cooperation, and we are committed to an open and honest effort to determine its causes.  We care deeply about the safety of employees, contractors and the general public, and will continue to cooperate fully with all the authorities investigating the Cabin Creek event.”
