TRANSLink Statement on Iowa Utilities Board Ruling

MINNEAPOLIS - Statement by Audrey Zibelman, president and chief executive officer, TRANSLink  Management Development Corporation (“TRANSLink” or the “Company”), regarding the June 4 ruling by the Iowa Utilities Board (the “Board”) dismissing, without prejudice, the applications of Interstate Power and Light (“IP&L”) and MidAmerican Energy (“MidAmerican”) to transfer control of their electric transmission assets to TRANSLink.

“While we are disappointed with the Board’s decision, we are pleased that the Board has encouraged the utility companies to promptly re-file.  We believe that timing played a substantial role in the decision, as the Board was required by Iowa law, to either disapprove the applications or allow the utilities to proceed with their proposed reorganizations by June 16, without any option for extension or additional data gathering.

“TRANSLink looks forward to working with IP&L and MidAmerican in quickly addressing and resolving the Board’s questions and concerns.  Together, we intend to convince the Board that TRANSLink offers Iowa customers significant benefits through our sole focus on operating our transmission network as efficiently, reliably and safely as possible.  The utilities’ and TRANSLink’s goal is to provide its customers with the most reliable and cost effective electric service available in the market.”

TRANSLink has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to operate as an independent transmission company in the regions it serves.  TRANSLink will oversee approximately 38,379 miles of transmission lines linking generators producing 35,000 megawatts of electricity.  The Company will be the transmission network provider to entities with approximately 7.7 million customers in 13 states, making it one of the largest transmission companies in the nation.

TRANSLink will operate transmission systems in portions of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin and Colorado.
