Xcel Energy seeks wind power

DENVER - Xcel Energy today announced that it has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking bids for new wind power generation.Xcel Energy is seeking to acquire up to 150 megawatts of generation through this solicitation in support of the Colorado Resource Plan.

The company will consider resources with commercial operation dates through 2012. "We support the goal of securing an environmentally sound energy future, and we are committed to achieving this goal in a reliable, cost-effective and timely manner," said Tim Taylor, president and CEO of Public Service Company of Colorado, an Xcel Energy company. "We also are striving to achieve this goal with minimal cost impacts to our customers."

The Production Tax Credit for wind power expires at the end of 2008. Congress is debating how and if it will extend those credits. These credits significantly lower the cost of wind power, making it closer to the costs of traditional sources of power generation.

Proposals are due no later than April 11, 2008. A copy of the RFP and more specific information will be available at www.xcelenergy.com in "About Energy and Rates" under the "Energy RFPs" section.
