Energy-efficient bulbs available for 91 cents
MINNEAPOLIS - A limited-time offer of instant, in-store rebates will make qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) available for 91 cents apiece beginning Tuesday, March 7, for Xcel Energy's Minnesota electricity customers.
Xcel Energy is helping customers make the simple switch to energy-efficient lighting by offering the rebates on CFLs that have earned the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star label. By replacing an incandescent bulb with an Energy Star CFL, customers can reduce their energy bills by up to $28 over the life of each bulb and protect the environment at the same time.
Customers will receive a $3 instant rebate on each qualified four-pack of 13-watt CFLs they purchase at Menards stores in Fridley, Golden Valley, Oakdale, Maplewood, Richfield, St. Paul and West St. Paul. The instant rebate will reduce the cost of a four-pack to $3.64, or 91 cents per bulb.
Quantities are limited, and the rebate offer is available only while supplies last.
"Replacing the most frequently used incandescent light bulbs in your home with Energy Star-qualified bulbs is an easy way to save money and help protect the environment because compact fluorescent bulbs conserve energy," said Kim Sherman, product portfolio manager for Xcel Energy.
"If residential electric customers replace the five most-used incandescent bulbs in their homes with compact fluorescent bulbs, they could save up to $50 a year in electricity cost."
The most frequently used lights typically include the kitchen lights, living room table lamp, living room floor lamp, bathroom vanity light and outdoor porch or post lamp, Sherman said.
Energy Star-qualified CFLs use up to 75 percent less energy than typical incandescent light bulbs, and they also offer superior performance by lasting up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, she said.

The instant rebate is available for four-packs of CFLs manufactured by Buyers Choice (model 29132/BPESL13T4), with a limit of three four-packs (12 bulbs) per customer.
Purchasers must be Minnesota residential electricity customers of Xcel Energy to qualify for the instant rebate.
