Xcel Energy selects Framatome for steam generator design work
MINNEAPOLIS - Xcel Energy, formerly Northern States Power, today announced it has signed a contract with Framatome S.A., Paris, to perform design engineering for replacement steam generators at Xcel Energy’s Prairie Island nuclear generating plant near Red Wing, Minn.
Xcel Energy is evaluating the economics of replacing two 25-year-old steam generators on Unit 1 at the plant. The company is taking steps to preserve the replacement option for as early as 2004.
Units 1 and 2 at the Prairie Island plant generate approximately 20 percent of the electricity used by Xcel Energy customers in parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota and Michigan.
