Community grants awarded by Xcel Energy

DENVER - Xcel Energy Foundation has announced the recipients of “Building Stronger Communities” grants totaling $1.4 million across the company’s 11-state service territory. The annual grants support affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization and programs that promote economic self-sufficiency.

Grants to organizations in Colorado include:

  • $35,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Colorado, to fund 45 homes in Colorado with energy-efficient building products. This funding in turn will provide improved energy-efficient homes for low- and very-low income families.
  • $20,000 for Denver-based Seniors! Inc., through the Colorado Money Management Program, to assists low-income individuals with basic money management needs, bill paying, creating budgets, checkbook balancing, and help with understanding forms and medical bills.
  • $20,000 for the Federal Heights-based Senior Hub Inc. and its Minor Home Repair Program, which offers low-income senior citizens discounted handyman rates for home repairs, including labor and materials.
  • $20,000 for the Urban League of Metropolitan Denver Inc., to fund implementation of the Money Smart curriculum for the league’s current employment and training programs. The curriculum provides participants with knowledge and means to access financial institutions, evaluate the level of services, and utilize these services to become money smart and self-sufficient. 

Xcel Energy, its employees and retirees support non-profit organizations in their communities through grants, matching gifts and volunteer initiatives.
