DENVER - Xcel Energy Foundation has announced recipients of 167 education grants for a total of $1.6 million across the company’s 11-state service territory.
The foundation’s Supporting Education focus area grants are determined annually, and support math, science and economic education programs for grades K-16. Area grants include:
-
$30,000 to Junior Achievement Rocky Mountain, Inc. to develop a new math curriculum for sixth graders. The curriculum will complement the district’s efforts to utilize “connected math.”
-
$20,000 to help economically disadvantaged middle school students and minority high school students in Metro Denver develop essential skills necessary to successfully complete coursework in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and to develop an interest in these fields. The Summer Science Scholars Program and the Summer Science Institute are run by Metropolitan State College of Denver.
-
$20,000 to support the High School Science Bowl, Middle School Science Bowl and the Junior Solar Sprint/Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car competitions.
