Shoshone Hydro
Location: Glenwood Springs, Colorado
Plant Description: Shoshone is a hydroelectric generating station.
Power Production Capabilities: The plant has two units capable of producing up to 15 MW of electricity.
Fuel Source: Water is diverted from the Colorado River and returned to the river after use.
Plant History: Construction of the plant began in 1904, and it started operating in 1909.
Interesting Features: Shoshone depends upon river flow rather than captive water from a reservoir for operations
Environmental Highlights: With water as its only fuel, Shoshone Hydro has no air, land or water emissions.
Community Involvement: Shoshone employees are involved in the Colorado Department of Transportation highway clean up program and are responsible for two miles of the Glenwood Canyon Bikeway. In addition, a number of tours are given throughout the year.
