Windsource Colorado
Pricing and billing
A Windsource® charge will appear as a separate line item on your monthly Xcel Energy bill, charged against the number of Windsource kilowatt-hours (kWh) you purchased.
The Windsource rate is in addition to the full retail rate and is set at $2.16 per 100 kWh block. Remember that Windsource charges will be calculated on your actual monthly Xcel Energy bill. If your electricity use is less than your level of Windsource commitment, you will be charged only for what you use.
Residents of Boulder who sign up for Windsource receive a credit toward the Climate Action Plan tax. The credit does not appear as a separate line item on the bill and is instead included in the Climate Action Plan tax line item on your bill.
Contract Term
For our residential electric customers, there’s a minimum one-year purchase requirement. You will continue to participate in Windsource on a month-to-month basis after the one-year period unless you notify us of a change in your commitment. Please allow 30 days for your change to be effective. If you move before completing your minimum term your Windsource commitment will terminate automatically.
You may cancel this agreement with Xcel Energy after the minimum term by calling their customer service number or writing to the billing address listed below.
Special provision for 100 percent customers
For customers purchasing 100% Windsource, Green-e Energy allows a percentage of a product’s content to be satisfied by renewable portfolio standard (RPS) state-mandated renewables up to the percentage RPS requirement.
For example, if the RPS is set at 5%, up to 5% of the Green-e Energy Certified product can be satisfied with renewable power purchased to meet a mandated RPS requirement. This applies only to customers that purchase 100% of their electricity use from Windsource.
Colorado Renewable Portfolio Standard
- 2011 through 2014 12% of its retail electricity sales
- 2015 through 2019 20% of its retail electricity sales
- 2020 and beyond 30% of its retail electricity sales
