Small Customer Owned Application Process Steps 1 - 4

  1. Start the online application

    Apply for a solar incentive at www.xcelenergysolarrewards.com. Create a login and password to access the site, then follow the online instructions for entering the project details. The following is required as part of the application:

    • Enter customers information, including: 10 digit Xcel Energy account number and premise number (information can be found on customer bill).
    • PV module/panel manufacturer and model (if the manufacturer/model you are wanting to use is not on our list, you will need to find it on the CEC website and then email that information to the Solar program mailbox (solarprogram@xcelenergy.com) and request to have it added before submitting the application).
    • kW size (name plate capacity). Use PV Watts for the system size calculation.
    • Azimuth/Orientation and Tilt
    • Fix, 1-axis tracking or 2-axis tracking system
    • Single of three phase electrical service
    • Inverter manufacturer and model
    • Installer information
    1. Send in Application Deposit Form and deposit check
      Once the application has been submitted, click on the Documents tab at the top of the screen and print the Application Deposit Form. The Application Deposit Form and deposit must be postmarked within 7 business days of application submission. You will be notified via e-mail when your application has been reviewed.

      *Please note: Every application must have a $250.00 reservation deposit submitted in order to allow the application to proceed forward. This deposit is refunded fully to the provider upon project completion as long as the project is completed within 12 months of the date of application submission. If at any time the application is declined, cancelled or does not meet the 12 month deadline, the deposit is forfeited to the RESA.

  2. Submit Interconnection Study Fee, Upload Line Diagram and Site Plan
    After your application has been reviewed, you must submit a standard $100 interconnection study fee along with a line diagram and site plan. The documents can be uploaded to the application and the check must be mailed with the Interconnection Study Fee form to:

    Please note that all programs require a production meter. Once we receive your study fee, we will send the line diagram and site plan for review by our engineering team. After these items have been approved by both the area engineer and the metering engineer, the application will move forward to Stage 1. You will receive an e-mail message from Xcel Energy informing you of the actionable next steps.
  3. Stage 1 Documents (Reservation Letter and Interconnection Agreement)
    The next step is to print, sign and then upload the Reservation Letter and Interconnection Agreement to the application website. These documents can be found by clicking on the Documents tab at the top of the application page. Once we review and approve your Stage 1 documents, you will receive an e-mail message from us informing you of the actionable next steps.

Small Customer Owned Application Process Steps 5 - 8

  1. Final Submit and Stage 2 Documents (Invoice, Inspection, Insurance and NABCEP Form)
    At this time, you need to make sure there are no changes that need to be made to the application, then you will need to click the 'final submit' button at the bottom of the application.

    *Please note:
    If the system size changes more than +/- 10%, the application will be cancelled and the deposit will be forfeited to the RESA fund.

    Please upload the following Stage 2 documents:
    • Invoice- must include panel wattage, panel quantity and total system cost.
    • Inspection- provide documentation of all necessary town/municipal/county/city inspections. The inspection must show final electric approval.
    • Insurance- proof of $300,000 minimum personal liability insurance. (from customer)
    • NABCEP Form- if you haven’t already done so, please upload the form at this time
  2. Net meter installation
    Once we have received all documentation, we will order and install a net meter and production meter at the address. Once we review and approve your Stage 2 documents and your meters have been ordered, you will receive an e-mail message from Xcel Energy informing you of the actionable next steps.

    *Please note: After the meter order has been placed, it will take the meter shop 10-15 business days to install the net meter and production meter. Once we review and approve your Stage 2 documents and your meters have been ordered, you will receive an e-mail message from Xcel Energy informing you of the actionable next steps.
  3. Solar*Rewards Contract
    The Solar*Rewards Contract can be found on the application website by clicking on the Documents tab. The end-use customer must sign the contract. Once the contract has been signed by both the installer and customer, it will need to be uploaded to the application website.
  4. Complete Application
    After the new meters have been set and the account is being billed on the photovoltaic rate, we will mark the application as complete. At this time, fully executed copies of the contracts will be sent to the appropriate party.
