Our products and services differ based on state. Please select your state (or the state you're interested in) from the list to the left.

Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.

How Do You Know You’re a Candidate for Solar*Rewards? - CO

How Do You Know You’re a Candidate for Solar*Rewards?

Eligible Customers

You should be able to answer yes to the following questions before deciding to install a PV system.

  • Q:
Do you receive electric service from Xcel Energy?
    A:
You must be an Xcel Energy electric customer in order to qualify for Solar*Rewards. (Third-party developers serving Xcel Energy CO electric customers are eligible as well)
  • Q:
Does your roof face east, west or south?
    A:
North-facing roofs do not allow full utilization of sunlight and may not qualify for Solar*Rewards.
  • Q:
Is your roof unobstructed and not shaded?
    A:
Minimal shading by trees, buildings and other structures means better orientation for a potential PV system. If you have shading that does not allow full utilization of sunlight, you may not qualify for Solar*Rewards.
  • Q:
Is your property free from deed restrictions on PV systems?
    A:
We recommend you check with your neighborhood association, local government or homeowners association. If there are restrictions, you may be able to pursue an architectural review to amend the restrictions.
  • Q:
Is your roof in good condition?
    A:
Your roof needs to support a PV system installation. We recommend you check with your roofer and homeowners insurance company for warranty information. If needed, any new roofing should be completed prior to the installation.

Eligible Equipment

The following requirements are necessary in order for equipment to be eligible for a rebate.

  • You must install a new eligible PV system. A list of eligible PV system modules and inverters is available on the California Energy Commission’s website.
  • All PV systems must carry a five-year warranty from both the manufacturer and the installer, including parts and labor.
  • Rebuilt, used, refurbished or portable equipment does not qualify.

Installation Requirements

You may use the installer of your choice or install the system yourself. We recommend you confirm that your installer understands our solar installation requirements and agrees to adhere to our program guidelines. We also recommend you request bids from at least three installers. Some resources to find installers include:

Legal Disclaimers

Xcel Energy is not a manufacturer, supplier or guarantor of the PV system or installers, and Xcel Energy, whether by making available a list of installers and equipment sources or otherwise, has not made and makes no representations or warranties of any nature, directly or indirectly, express or implied, as to performance of the installer or reliability, performance, durability, condition or quality of the PV system selected and purchased. For on-site PV systems up to and including 10 kW, the Renewable Energy Credit (REC) payment may be adjusted, either up or down, based on the calculation of expected kWh of electric output as compared with an optimally oriented, fixed (i.e., non-tracking) system at the customer’s location, but only if the calculated system output differs from the optimally oriented system output by more than 10 percent.
