Electric Space Heating - SD

Electric Space Heating

Qualified South Dakota residents can receive a lower winter rate for electric space heating

Overview

The South Dakota Electric Space Heating program is available to residential electric customers located in Xcel Energy’s South Dakota service territory.

Electric Space Heating charges are applicable only when electric space heating equipment is used as your primary source of residential space heating. (A Duplex Meter Socket is not necessary for this rate.)

Because electricity is the primary heating source, you receive a discount in the winter months of October - May on all usage above 1,000 kWh.

Examples of electric space heating equipment include:

  • Electric baseboard heat
  • Electric boiler
  • Electric furnace
  • Air source heat pumps
  • Ground source heat pumps
  • Electric Radiant Heat
