Choose your state

Our products and services differ based on state. Please select your state (or the state you're interested in) from the list to the left.

Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.

Benefits

  • Rebates lower the initial cost of the equipment
  • Highly-efficient equipment costs less to operate
  • These units use less energy to operate, and that’s good for the environment

Who Qualifies

New Equipment Rebate Eligibility

To qualify for the rebate, the installation property must be:

  • Located in Colorado
  • Receive residential electric service from Xcel Energy to qualify for the rebate.

Rebates are given only on central air conditioners or air source heat pumps installed by contractors who are registered participants in Xcel Energy’s cooling program. Additionally:

  • Eligible equipment must be installed between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2013, and applications must be postmarked no later than July 31, 2014.
  • Eligible equipment installed in 2012 is still eligible for a rebate if application is postmarked no later than July 31, 2013.
  • Please note that window units, ductless mini-split systems (AC and heat pumps) and rooftop units do not qualify for Xcel Energy rebate programs.

Xcel Energy uses ahridirectory.org to verify all AC and ASHP equipment. Coil and condensers that do not match per AHRI do not qualify for rebates. There is no limit to the number of AC rebates per home. If you install two air conditioners, you must submit two forms.

Please read the full program details.

Trade-In Equipment Eligibility

Trade-in residential central air conditioning units being replaced must meet the following qualifications to receive the trade-in rebate.

  • The SEER of the trade-in unit to be replaced must be determined from information on the condensing unit. The following information is required:
    • Make, model and serial number of the condensing unit
    • Unit SEER and/or EER rating as given by the manufacturer
    • If the condensing unit information cannot be determined by the HVAC contractor, the AC unit will not qualify for the AC Trade-In rebate
  • The old replaced AC unit must be operable or in need of repair of components to become operable. The estimated range for repair is $500 to $1,500.
  • The new AC unit (replacing the retired unit) must meet the following criteria:
    • Minimum efficiency of SEER 14 and maximum efficiency of EER 12
    • Installed by an Xcel Energy registered contractor

The maximum qualifying SEER rating for the trade-in unit is 12 SEER (can be lower).

Trade-In and New Equipment Rebate Amounts

New Equipment SEER New Equipment EER New Equipment Rebate Trade-In Rebate
14 < 12 $0 $500
14.5 12 $250 $500
15 12.5 $350 $500
16 13 $500 $500
The rebate is paid according to the lesser value of SEER/EER. Example: A customer who installs a 16 SEER with a 12.5 EER will receive a $350 rebate.
Note: Customers who trade in an old unit for a 14.0 to 14.49 SEER system will receive only the trade-in rebate and are not eligible for the new equipment rebate.

How to Get Started

  1. Read through these program materials:
    • Proper Sizing and Airflow Brochure under Additional Information (below)
    • Information Sheet under Overview (above)
  2. See the Additional Information section on this page to find an Xcel Energy registered contractor
  3. Select one of these contractors to install your system and test it at start up. Only registered contractors have rebate applications.

Rebates take six weeks or more to process after the application has been submitted.

Rebates are processed individually; you will receive one check per application, if approved. If you submit more than one rebate per envelope, you will most likely receive the rebate checks at different times.
