Overview
Business customers in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota can receive substantial savings by participating in our Interruptible Gas Rates programs. If you agree to curtail your natural gas usage at our request during peak demand, you can qualify for reduced gas rates throughout the entire year.
During periods of peak gas demand such as bitter cold winter days, our customers may require more natural gas than is normally available. By participating in the Interruptible Gas Rates program, you help reduce the amount of gas our customers need, which helps us meet gas requirements at critical times.
Benefits
When you use Interruptible Gas Rates, you can gain big savings all year round on your energy bill. In exchange for you agreeing to curtail gas usage at our request during peak demand, you can:
- Take advantage of reduced gas rates (per therm)
- Benefit from reduced demand which can help contribute to keeping overall prices lower

Who Qualifies
To qualify, you must:
- Be a natural gas business customer of Xcel Energy in Minnesota, Wisconsin or North Dakota.
- Agree to interruptible conditions per program requirements.
- Be able to reduce your gas usage during peak demand at our request.
- Install a phone line at your own expense to our telemetering device that reads your gas meter.
