Cooling Efficiency

Colorado businesses can lower up-front costs and shorten payback periods on qualified cooling equipment with our Cooling Efficiency rebates.

Cooling is the number two user of electricity for most commercial buildings. New cooling equipment is at least 20% more efficient than units just 15 years old, and the most-efficient, new units are up to 52% more efficient than the minimum-efficiency models. (Source: E Source by Platts).

When you take advantage of our Cooling Efficiency rebates, you:

• Earn a prescriptive rebate of up to 60% of incremental costs on average.
• Lower up-front costs and shorten your payback period on new, high-efficiency cooling units.
• Benefit from at least a 20% increase in cooling efficiency compared to older units.
• Save money on your cooling costs over time while increasing comfort in your facility.

Prescriptive Rebates

We offer cash rebates for qualifying, high-efficiency cooling equipment, such as DX units, chillers and other select equipment. On average, our rebates equate to approximately 60% of the incremental cost incurred for purchasing high-efficiency equipment rather than standard efficiency equipment.

Custom Rebates

For cooling equipment that does not qualify for our prescriptive rebate program, we offer rebates of up to $400 per kW of electricity saved through our Custom Efficiency program. To qualify for our Cooling Efficiency rebates, you:

• Must be a business electric customer of Xcel Energy in Colorado.
• Must purchase new qualifying cooling systems (see general list of qualifying equipment).
• Cannot apply for rebates on used, rebuilt or refurbished equipment.

Our rebates lower your up-front cost and shorten your payback period for qualifying:

• Chillers
• Condensing units
• Direct Evaporative Pre-coolers
• Indirect/hybrid evaporative cooling
• Packaged terminal air conditioners (PTAC)
• Rooftop units (RTU)
• Split systems
• Water source heat pumps
