Water Heater Rebates

Water Heater rebates for Minnesota are more comprehensive than ever before

Overview

A new natural gas water heater can help you save energy and money. Did you know that water heating in the home is typically the second largest energy consumer after heating and cooling? Our 2013 water heater rebate program is designed to help offset your initial costs, and an efficient unit can offer savings throughout the life of the equipment. Xcel Energy offers five tiers of rebates, including tankless water heaters.

Benefits

  • Rebates lower the initial cost of the equipment
  • High-efficiency equipment costs less to operate
  • These units use less energy to operate, and that’s good for the environment

Who Qualifies

  • Xcel Energy customers who receive residential natural gas service from us in Minnesota
Qualifying Equipment
Appliance Energy Efficiency Level Rebate Amount
Natural Gas Standard tank water heater .62 EF $40
.64 EF $60
.67 EF $150
Natural Gas Tankless water heater .90 EF $100

How to Get Started

  1. Find a registered contractor.
  2. Purchase and install a new, qualifying water heater between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.
  3. Download the rebate application or ask for one from your installing contractor.
  4. Customer applications must be postmarked by July 31, 2014 and include a dated invoice. It takes about six weeks to receive a rebate check.

Additional Information

The installation property must be located in Minnesota and receive residential natural gas service from Xcel Energy to qualify for the rebate.

Equipment eligibility is verified through the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and the ENERGY STAR® website. Indirect units are not eligible. To be eligible for a rebate, equipment model numbers on the invoice and the rebate form must match exactly. Check with your contractor to ensure that your unit will qualify for a rebate.

There is no limit to the number of water heater rebates you can receive. If you install two qualifying water heaters, you may submit two forms.

Rebate forms for units installed between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013 must be submitted by July 31, 2014.

Rebates for new home construction should be negotiated between the builder and the home buyer to determine who receives the rebate.

Rebates may take up to six weeks to process after the application has been submitted. Rebate applications are processed individually; you will receive one check per application if approved. Please retain a copy of your paperwork.

If you have any questions, call us at 1-800-895-4999.

Note

Applications for 2012 installations that are postmarked between January 1, 2013 and July 31, 2013 will receive 2013 rebate amounts.
