Self-Direct Efficiency

Minnesota businesses earn increased rebates doing their own engineering, implementation and commissioning

Overview

Large Minnesota businesses and industrial electricity and/or natural customers may earn increased rebates when they do their own engineering, implementation and commissioning on qualifying projects at their facilities. The value of these rebates will be based on the energy savings attained. If your business is investing in energy efficiency measures and long-term sustainability planning, you may qualify for our Self-Direct Efficiency program.

Benefits

When you take advantage of our Self-Direct Efficiency rebates, you can:

  • Earn higher rebates by designing, engineering and verifying project results yourself
  • Put together an energy plan to fit your business needs
  • Receive up to $525/kilowatt (kW) saved or $0.10/kilowatt-hour (kWh) conserved, and
  • Receive up to $8 Dth saved

Who Qualifies

To qualify, you must:

  • Be an large Minnesota business or industrial electricity and/or natural gas retail rate paying customer
  • Be the customer of record for all meters that are aggregated. You must also have one of the following:
  • Have an aggregate peak demand at all meters of at least 2 Megawatts (MW) in any single month
  • Have an aggregate annual energy usage of at least 10 Gigawatt-hours (GWh)
  • Have an aggregate natural gas usage of at least 100,000 Dekatherms (Dth)

How to Get Started

  1. Pre-qualification: Contact your Xcel Energy account manager to receive an application and verify that you meet all requirements to qualify for a rebate.
  2. Identification/Application: Identify your energy-efficiency opportunities. Then, send us a detailed report of your business’ energy efficiency improvement plan.
  3. Submittal/Preapproval: We will confirm receipt of the application and review your application. Additional information may be requested. Then, you will be notified in writing of your approval, your rebate amount and a monitoring plan will be finalized to verify your results.
  4. Implementation/Completion: Pre-installation monitoring is conducted and data is forwarded to Xcel Energy. Once data approval is obtained, the project can begin. Once completed, submit your completion report.
  5. Rebate Finalization: Upon approval of your project completion report, a rebate check will be issued.
