Businesses in Colorado and Minnesota can earn rebates and energy savings through our Recommissioning program. Save up to 20% on your building energy costs. Improve the efficiency of your building systems and reduce your facility operations costs.

Whether you have a previously commissioned building (Recommissioning) or a facility that was never formally commissioned through us (Retrocommissioning), we can help.

Energy experts will do a Recommissioning study and provide recommendations on how you can tune up your building. Many measures have simple paybacks of less than one year. Choose what to implement and get rebates on both the study and implementation measure(s).

Are you looking to recommission your facility? Or will this be the first time for your facility? Get an energy analysis and recommendations for your building as well as rebates. With our Recommissioning program, your business or organization can:

• Be eligible for rebates on both the cost of the study and measures implemented.
• Save as much as 20% on your energy bills.
• Earn valuable credits for environmental programs such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED EB) and increase your ENERGY STAR® score.
• Achieve comfortable and convenient energy efficiency for both your organization and/or tenants.
• Increase equipment life and reduce wear and tear.
• Receive independent, objective and expert direction on energy saving options.

Our Recommissioning covers both previously commissioned buildings (Recommissioning) and buildings that were never formally commissioned through Xcel Energy (Retrocommissioning).

With Recommissioning, you can reduce your building energy costs through various measures including:

• Optimize HVAC equipment operations.
• Fine-tune time of day schedules.
• Suggest new and advanced equipment control strategies.

We require that study providers look for measures outlined in Addendum A. See How to Get Started to access the document and get a better idea of what opportunities might be uncovered.

Recommissioning is a two-step process:

Step 1 – Diagnosis

• You must first get preapproval before you can proceed with your Recommissioning study.
• If you choose to work with us on your Recommissioning study, we’ll fund up to 75% of the cost of your study, not exceeding $25,000. If you completed a study on your own, you may still qualify for implementation rebates through our fast track option.
• In Colorado, your building must be at least 50,000 square feet or have high-energy use to qualify.
• Select your own contractor or choose from our provider lists.
• The study includes:
  • An assessment of operating mechanical systems
  • A written report that includes energy-saving recommendations

Step 2 – Implementation

• You choose which measures to implement
• Earn electric or natural gas rebates that cover up to 60% of the cost of implementation

To qualify, you must:

• Be an Xcel Energy business (natural gas and/or electricity) customer within our service area in Colorado or Minnesota.
• In Colorado, have a building of at least 50,000 square feet or have high-energy use to qualify.

1. Complete and return the preapproval application, your study proposal and Addendum A (filled out by your provider) or call your Xcel Energy account manager or our Business Solutions Center at 1-800-481-4700 to get started.
2. We’ll review your application and let you know how much study funding you qualify for. Once preapproved, you can begin your study.
3. When your study is finished, we’ll review the recommendations and energy savings calculations and let you know what additional rebates you qualify for.
4. After your study is approved and paid for, submit the study rebate application to us with invoices.
5. Implement the recommissioning measures you choose and submit your signed application to receive your recommissioning rebate (if you implement other types of measures, you may need to apply for one or more of our other business rebates).
